UPDF leader Sachib Chakma arrested

UPDF leader Sachib Chakma was arrested from Bagachari under Nanyachar Upazila in Rangamati district on Saturday, 7 February.
Army personnel from Bagacahri camp arrested him at 5pm when he was on his way to see his ailing mother.
Sachib Chakma is a central committee member of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) and organiser of the party’s Rangamati district unit.
Sources said he was going to his village Bogachari by a CNG auto rickshaw after attending a meeting in Khagrachari. The army halted his vehicle at Bagachari check post on Khagrachari – Rangamati road and arrested him.
Sachib Chakma has a number of false cases filed against him in the past. He was handed over to Nanyachar police at midnight. However, no new case has been filed against him.
UPDF sources said he was carrying Taka 79 thousand with him.
Sachib Chakma was first arrested on 11 February 1998 from Nanyachar bazaar, one day after the surrender of the Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) members at Khagracahri stadium. At that time he was arrested for voicing criticism of the CHT accord.He was He was arrested for the second time on 23 May 2005 from Khagrachari town when he was arranging a demonstration in protest of forced land grabbing in Sajek area in Rangamati by Settlers by the help of Army.
