UPDF leader arrested in Rangamati
Yesterday(7th february,2009), Mr. Sacib Chakma, a top leader of UPDF and member of Central Committee of the party was arrested by the security forces in Rangamati.
According to the source of daily newspapers – Pothom Alo, Suprabhat and Ittefaq Mr. Sachib Chakma was arrested on his way to see his sickness mother in Ranghamati. He was going to see his sickness mother after joining in a party meeting in Khagrachari and the security forces arrest him halting the vehicle was carrying him reach at Bagachari under Rangamati district in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
It was third arrest of Mr. Sacib Chakma and in previous he was arrested twice in 1998 and 2005. Immediately after his arrest, although UPDF’s front organizations (Democratic Youth Forum, Hill Women’s Federation and Hill Students Council) managed to oraganise a protest demonstration in Khagrachari, however, UPDF has not been allowed by the security forces to protest in Nanniyacar, home town of Mr . Sachib Chakma .
In Kharachari, the leaders of front organisations condemned the arrest of Mr. Sacib Chakma and demand unconditional release of Mr. Sacib Chakma. Further, they demand to stop military interference and arrest without reason. Mr. Mithun Chakma, Organizing Secretary of Democratic Youth Forum, Miss Rina Dewan, Secretary of Hill Women Federation and Mr. Arpan Chakma, General - Secretary of Hill Student’s Council were the key speakers at the protest demonstration.
In a joint statement, Advocate Bhulan Bhoimik, president of National Liberation Front and Mr. Amir Abbas, members of the same organisation condemned the arrest of Mr. Sacib Chakma.
They said, UPDF in democratic way is leading movement and however, many its leaders have been victims of arrest. They said through the arrest Mr. Sacib Chakma, it indicates two policies in the country in one hand and came undemocratic and fascist’s face of the state to light on the other.
Mr. Sacib is a dedicated leader of UPDF and popular to the Jumma people. Therefore, he was targeted again and again by the security forces. To suppress UPDF and its movement of self- determination, over 200 its activists were arrested so far.

Army of Nanyachar Zone in Rangamati warned not to staged any rally again in protest of Sachib Chakma's arrest

Army of Nanyachar Zone under Rangamati District asked the PCP, Leader and peoples represantative yesterday(09th february, 2009)) at 11am to go to the camp.When the Leaders went in the camp the Army Zone commander Mr. Morshed warned them not to stage any programme again against the arrest of UPDF leader Sachib Chakma.The Army commander warned that if any more protest rally would be staged, Army would close down the office of UPDFand it's front organisation. They also reminded them about the 13th November,1993 Nanyachar Massacre. They told that if another protest rally would come then another 13th November like Nanyachar Massacre would be created. It is to be noted that Nanyachar Massacre occurred by Army in 1993 where more than 39 Jumma people were slaughtered or killed.
The Army asked the following people to go to their camp-

6. Mr. Ritan Chakma - Chairman- Nanyachar Union Parishad(Local Union Council)
7. Mr. Mtu Chakma - Chairman - Ghilachari Union Parishad
8. Mr. Pranati Ranjan Khisha - Burighat Union Parishad
9. Mr. Kumendu Bikash Chakma - Newly elected Vice Chairman of Nanyachar Upazilla
